Up lights are placed at ground level and cast light upwards to accent trees, the front façade of your home, architectural accents, etc.  These are often bullet fixtures but can also be in ground well light fixtures.  The beam spread on up lights have a large range with a narrow beam spread of 15 degrees for a spot light and as wide as 120 degrees for a wall wash effect.
